Focus on the Packaging and Conditioning sector in Algeria.

Market overview:

The latest PWC study on food safety in Algeria reveals that 75,000 companies are active in the packaging sector.

Plastic and cardboard are the most widely used segments, particularly for food products. This is due to the availability of raw materials, production costs, recyclability and consumer habits. Metal and glass, while less commonly used, have growth potential, as domestic production does not sufficiently cover demand.

The packaging sector plays a key role in waste reduction.

In Algeria, REP (Extended Producer Responsibility) encourages sustainable development of products and waste. It encourages companies to adopt responsible practices, such as selective sorting, recycling and the reuse of materials at the product's end-of-life.

REP is sometimes mandatory for exporting products. Several countries, including members of the European Union, Canada, Japan, South Korea and some American states, apply these policies to imported food products.
